Aston Martin dropped the wraps on Baby Valkyrie at the Geneva Motor Show this year. Christened as the AM-RB 003, this hypercar car is Aston’s third mid-engined hypercar to emerge from its tie-up with Red Bull Advanced Technologies. Like its siblings Valkyrie and Valkyrie AMR Pro, the RB-003 derives notable performance inspiration from Formula One.

Before we dive into those juicy number on the spec sheet, let’s discuss the exterior. At the outset, the RB-003 ships with a peculiar front grille that does not obey the design of its siblings. Alongside comes a massive rear diffuser that helps the underfloor of the car to generate greater downforce. At the rear, we could not help but notice the similarities that the 003 shares with Mercedes AMG One.

Aston Martin Valkyrie

Aston Martin has derived a major chunk of design cues from the Valkyrie on purpose.

Apart from an all-carbon body, the AM-RB 003 benefits from Active Suspension and electronic system that ‘shares a common philosophy with the Valkyrie’. But what grabbed our attention is ‘Flexoil’ – a technology developed for the aerospace industry that Aston says “allows for the car’s downforce to be changed without changing the physical angle of the entire [wing]”. Impressive indeed.

Aston Martin has ditched the screaming Cosworth-developed V12 for a new hybridised turbocharged V6 that is being developed in-house. Similar to the track-only Vulcan, the 003 will get the same Nexcel sealed oil system, meaning you can change said oil in about 90 seconds.

Aston Martin Valkyrie Interior

The interior sports a wide dash with an infotainment system that supports smartphone connectivity.

The AM-RB 003 has been designed a bit like Valkyrie on purpose. Aston says it “shares the same fundamental styling and aerodynamic philosophy” as the Valkyrie. As a result, the cabin is more spacious with LMP1-style doors. The RB 003 gets a wider 3D-printed centre console and an infotainment system that can pair and mount the passenger’s phones.

Aston Martin plans to create ripples in the hypercar segment with 500 of the 003s. While this surpasses the number of Valkyries that will exit the production lines, we are still not sure how many of it will be seen on the road.
