Meet the new 5-door Jimny
The much-awaited Suzuki Jimny 5-door is here and it is making its global debut at the 2023 Auto Expo in India. It is still the same off-roader as the 3-door Jimny but changes were evident in this 5-door Jimny.
The car maintains the same front fascia with circular headlamps, a long multi-slot grille, and a short bumper in terms of design. It gets a parallel side profile, such as having comparable posture, and has sharp edges and robust wheel arches, so even the spare tire that is installed on the backend is kept.
Having five doors to start with, the new Jimny now has a 2,590 mm wheelbase and an overall length that is stretched 340 mm longer than the original 3-door Jimny, which was required to meet Japan’s Kei vehicle standards. This is far less than the 4-meter threshold that Indian regulations employ to transition to new (and higher) tax brackets. Thus, the overall dimensions remain the same.
Jimny’s off-road ability
The 5-door vehicle is expected to perform well off-road because it is a Jimny. It can navigate the challenging areas that come with no pavement. Thanks to its 210 mm ground clearance, 36-degree approach angle, 24-degree break-over angle, and 50-degree departure angle.
It is powered by a 1.5-liter K15B gasoline engine with 105 horsepower and 134 Nm of torque, just like the original 3-door Jimny.
It should enhance overall fuel economy with a new idle start/stop capability. Additionally, it retains its manual transfer case and Suzuki AllGrip Pro 4WD part-time four-wheel drive system, both of which are linked to either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission.
It still has a boxy shape and is painted Kinetic Yellow; the roof’s black finish provides a pleasing visual contrast. Its 15-inch wheels with 195/80 tires are mounted in the wheel arches, and the side-hinged back door has a spare wheel attached to it.
The inside of the Indian-spec Jimny has the same interior as the international 3-door model, with the faux-exposed fasteners and grab handle on the dashboard, among other butch details that are still present. The wider back bench that can accommodate three passengers is the most significant alteration. With all seats up, the load space is only 208 liters.
The 2023 Suzuki Jimny 5-door comes with a nine-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and an Arkamys sound system. It has features including power windows, steering-mounted controls, automatic climate control, and electrically powered side mirrors.
Beginning in May 2023, India will start selling the 2023 Suzuki Jimny 4-door, and it will eventually reach a few international markets.
Jimny made even wider.
