In what can be termed as yet another successful event, the 2019 edition of Automechanika Dubai, the largest international trade show for the automotive aftermarket and service industry in the MEA region played a key role in bringing the whole market together.

The 17th edition of the annual showcase, which took place recently at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, registered a four percent year-on-year increase in exhibitors in 2019, with 1,880 exhibitors from 63 countries on-board. Automechanika Dubai 2019 covered the six major product sections of Parts & Components and Electronics & Systems; Accessories & Customizing; Tires & Batteries; Repair & Maintenance; Car Wash, Care & Reconditioning.

Automechanika and AMENA Partner on Innovation Zone

As official Association Partner, AMENA’s Team Led Panel Discussions And Sessions On The Current Trends As Well As The Future Of Mobility.

AMENA Automotive Association was the official association partner at this year’s exhibition and presented key trends, insights, and anticipated future trends specific to the MENA automotive industry.

Keynotes and panel discussions by AMENA Automotive Association team members, industry experts and AMENA members were delivered on June 10th and 11th at the Innovation Zone at Automechanika Dubai 2019.

Automechanika and AMENA partnered to answer, “What does the future look like for the automotive aftermarket?” Leading these discussions from AMENA were Alan Whaley, Chairman and Cheyenne Kamran, Chief Strategist. Over the last year, the team members at AMENA have been key players at many automotive forums in the region and Automechanika was yet another key avenue for the team to lead these critical conversations.

Participants were exposed to a lot of detailed conversations around electric vehicles, autonomous driving technologies and the future of mobility. Along with the future, valuable discussions and insights were shared on maximising profit and bringing in efficiencies around traditional ways of doing business.

Innovation Zone, a dedicated space at this year’s Automechanika Dubai was an extension of the Automechanika Academy focusing on offering insights into the present and future of the Middle East and African automotive aftermarket. Automechanika Academy is aimed at creating engaging and informative platforms to meet, network and learn from key industry experts and thought leaders on the latest trends, automotive industry innovations and changing dynamics of the automotive aftermarket sector.

This year also featured a presentation highlighting the Middle East Automotive Industry Innovation survey results. This survey titled ‘Automotive Aftermarket by 2025’ commissioned by Automechanika Dubai, gave the readers valuable insights into the sentiments of our aftermarket professionals who do business in the Middle East.

Participants at this year’s event also had opportunities to interact with industry leaders during an AMENA led panel discussions with representatives from AMENA member brands like Nissan, Emirates Motor Company (EMC), Infiniti, Al Futtaim Automotive, Aspiriti, AkzoNobel and Alvarez & Marsal.

Dubai Trades 2.1 million Tonnes of Auto Parts, Accessories Worth $10.3b

According to Dubai Customs, Dubai traded 2.1 million tonnes of auto parts and accessories worth $10.3 billion in 2018, a 32 percent increase in value of what the Emirate traded in 2009 (US$7.8 billion).

That figure includes imports of auto parts, accessories, batteries, tyres, and engine components worth US$5.5 billion last year, while exports and re-exports into surrounding continents was worth US$4.8 billion.

Japan topped the list of country partners for Dubai’s auto parts trade according to Dubai Customs, with the two trading US$1.4 billion worth of aftermarket products in 2018.  Rounding out the top five list was the USA (US$735,000 worth of auto parts trade), Germany (US$680,000), Korea (US$626 million), and China (US$626 million).
